2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Shooting (Smallbore) to be Held at Ft. Benning, Ga. May 12-22

Over 170 top rifle and pistol shooters from around the United States will be vying for spots on the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Shooting (Smallbore) May 12 – 22, which will be held at Ft. Benning's International Shooting Complex in Columbus, Ga., home of the U.S. Army Marksmanship (USAMU). The U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Shooting is a collaborative partnership between the U.S. Olympic Committee and USA Shooting.
In smallbore rifle, there is one U.S. Olympic team spot available for Men's Prone and Men's 3-Position (Matt Emmons has already secured a spot in both Prone and 3P) and there are two spots available in Women's 3-Position. In pistol, there are two U.S. Olympic team spots available for Men's Free Pistol and one spot in Men's Rapid Fire Pistol. There are two spots for Women's Sport Pistol.

Dominic Grazioli Wins World Cup USA Bronze Medal in Men’s Trap

The 2008 ISSF World Cup USA for Shotgun concluded today with Dominic Grazioli (San Antonio, Texas) claiming a bronze medal for the U.S. in Men’s Trap. Australia’s Michael Diamond captured the gold and Massimiliano Mola from Italy took the silver.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Diamond claimed the gold medal after shooting a perfect score of 25 targets in the final, finishing with a total score of 148 targets and matching his own world record.

Theresa DeWitt Captures Gold, Joetta Dement Claims Bronze in Women’s Trap at World Cup USA

The Women’s Trap final was held at the 2008 ISSF World Cup USA for Shotgun today with U.S. shooters Theresa DeWitt (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Joetta Dement (Renton, Wash.) claiming the gold and bronze medals respectively. Russia’s Irina Laricheva took home the silver.
DeWitt, a 1996 Olympian, and silver medalist from the 2006 World Cup USA in Kerrville finished in first place with a total score of 94 targets to claim the gold medal. Laricheva, a 2004 Olympian, and Dement were tied at the conclusion of the finals at 91 targets to force a shoot-off. Laricheva hit her first target in the shoot-off, while Dement missed her first target, earning Laricheva the silver, while Dement took the bronze. Australia’s Stacy Roiall finished in fourth place with 90 targets, while Russia’s Elena Tkach, a 2000 Olympian, took fifth place with 89 targets. Corey Cogdell (Eagle River, Alaska), a 2008 U.S. Olympic team member finished in sixth place with 88 targets.
